Harvey Stays Close at the Store
Story
Stores can be busy.
There are lots of sounds, bright lights, and interesting things to look at. One time, I saw something exciting and started to wander away. When I looked up, I couldn’t see my grown-up right away.
My heart beat faster.
I remembered what I was supposed to do: stop where I was and look for help. I stayed still, and soon my grown-up found me. They were relieved—and so was I.
We talked about staying close and holding hands when stores or streets feel crowded. I learned that staying nearby helps everyone feel safe, especially when things feel overwhelming.
At bedtime, I felt calm knowing I had a plan—and people who would always look for me.

A Note for Parents and Caregivers
Busy spaces can overwhelm young children quickly. Practicing simple plans—like stopping instead of searching—gives children confidence without fear. Predictability and reassurance help children feel safe in unfamiliar environments.
