Sleeping dog dreaming of tricycle ride

Harvey Wears His Helmet

I love riding my bike.

The wind feels good, and my legs feel strong. Before I ride, I always put on my helmet. Sometimes I forget why it matters—but then I remember what my grown-ups taught me.

Helmets protect my head.

Even careful riders can fall, and wearing a helmet helps keep my brain safe. I buckle it snugly every time—no matter how short the ride.

When I finished riding, I felt proud. Wearing my helmet wasn’t a rule to scare me—it was a way to take care of myself.

That night, I dreamed of riding fast, feeling free, and staying safe.

Talk About It

  • Why do we wear helmets when we ride bikes or scooters?
  • How does taking care of your body help you keep having fun?

A Note for Parents and Caregivers

Safety gear works best when it’s normal and expected, not negotiated. Framing helmets as part of caring for our bodies—rather than as protection from danger—helps children accept them as a natural, everyday habit. Helmets are like seat belts and car seats – everyone wears them all the time.
