Harvey’s New Family
🐾 Hi Friends—Harvey here!
Mom and Dad told me something new the other day.
“Harvey,” Mom said, “our family is going to grow again.”
My tail wagged right away.
“A new puppy?” I asked.
Dad smiled. “Yes… but this time, we are going to adopt a puppy.”
Adopt?
I tilted my head.
“What does adopt mean?” I asked.
Mom sat down next to me.
“Adoption means we are welcoming a puppy into our family who needs a home,” she said gently.
Dad nodded. “That puppy will become part of our family—forever.”
I thought about that.
“So… the puppy will live with us?”
“Yes,” Mom said.
“And you will be their parents?” I asked.
“We will,” Dad said.
“And I’ll be… their brother?”
Mom smiled. “Exactly.”
I sat very still for a moment.
“That sounds really special,” I said.
Then I thought of something else.
“Will the new puppy know how our family works?” I asked.
“Not at first,” Mom said.
“They will learn,” Dad said. “And we can help teach them.”
“I can help!” I said.
My tail wagged faster.
Adoption means giving someone a place to belong.
It means saying:
You are part of our family now.
You are safe here.
You are loved.
And that feels really, really good.
Families can grow in different ways.
But what makes a family isn’t how it starts…
It’s how we love each other.
