Harvey Goes to the Eye Doctor
🐾 Hi friends — Harvey here.
Today started out as a really fun day. I was outside running and playing in the yard. The sun was shining, and I was chasing a ball as fast as I could go!
But then—ouch!
Something flew right into my eye.
I blinked and blinked. My eye started to water, and it felt a little scratchy and uncomfortable.
“I don’t like this,” I said.
My teacher noticed I was rubbing my eye and sent me to see the school nurse.
The nurse took a careful look.
“Harvey,” she said gently, “I think it would be a good idea for you to visit the eye doctor, just to make sure everything is okay.”
I felt a little nervous. I had never been to the eye doctor before.
When I got there, the eye doctor was very kind.
“Hi Harvey,” he said. “Let’s take a look and help your eye feel better.”
He used a special light to look closely at my eye. Then he gently washed it with some clean water.
“That might feel a little funny,” he said.
It did feel funny—but also kind of better.
After he finished, he smiled and said,
“You have a very small scratch on your eye. It’s called a scratch on the surface, and the good news is—it will heal.”
I let out a big sigh. “Whew.”
“You’ll need to keep your eye clean,” he explained. “And your parents will help you use a little medicine for a few days.”
I nodded. I can do that.
Then I started thinking about something else.
“Some of my friends wear glasses,” I said. “Do I need glasses too?”
The eye doctor smiled again.
“Not today, Harvey. Your eyes are working just fine.”
That made me feel really happy.
On the way home, I kept thinking about my eyes. They help me see my friends, my family, and all the fun things I love to do.
“I want to take good care of my eyes,” I said.
My mom said, “That’s a great idea, Harvey.”
So I made a plan.
“I’m going to wear sunglasses when I play outside,” I said proudly. “They can help protect my eyes from bright sun and things that might blow into them.”
“That’s a very smart choice,” my dad said.
My eye still felt a little scratchy that day, but I knew it was going to get better.
And I also learned something important:
Taking care of your eyes helps you keep seeing all the wonderful things around you.
Goodnight, friends. 👁️💛

A Note for Parents and Caregivers
Eye irritations and minor scratches are common in young children and often heal quickly with proper care. This story helps normalize seeking medical evaluation and reassures children that eye doctor visits are safe and helpful.
You can reinforce healthy habits by reminding children to:
- Avoid rubbing their eyes when something is in them
- Wash hands before touching their face
- Wear protective eyewear (like sunglasses) during outdoor play
- Follow care instructions if medicine is prescribed
If your child has persistent pain, redness, or trouble seeing, it’s important to seek medical care promptly.
