Harvey’s Happy Day

Note to Parents: Encourage your child to name three “happy things” from their own day.

Story

Hi, it’s me—Harvey. I’m lying in my soft, warm bed, my paws tucked under my blanket. I can still smell the grass from playing outside today. The moonlight peeks through my window and makes little sparkles on my fur. Today was a happy day. I ran with my friends at the park. I chased my red ball until I was tired and my tongue felt like a silly ribbon. My friend Daisy brought a stick, and we took turns carrying it. I think we laughed the whole time. Now my body feels tired in a good way. My heart feels full too—like when you finish your favorite story and smile at the ending.

Sometimes, right before I fall asleep, I like to think about all the good things that happened. It helps my mind slow down. I whisper thank you for each one: Thank you for my friends. Thank you for the sunshine. Thank you for the water in my bowl. Thank you for my cozy bed. I take a big breath in…and a soft breath out. Tomorrow will bring a brand-new day full of more chances to play, learn, and love. Good night, friends. Sleep happy, just like me.
