Harvey Helps Grow a Vegetable Garden

One warm spring morning Dad said, “Today we’re planting our vegetable garden.”

Mom showed me tiny carrot seeds and Dad planted potatoes in the soil.

“Seeds grow into plants, and plants grow the food we eat,” Dad explained.

I helped dig rows in the garden with my paws.

Every day we checked the garden as the plants grew taller and stronger.

One day Dad pulled a carrot from the soil. Pop! A bright orange carrot came out of the dirt.

We dug up potatoes too. They were like little treasures hiding underground.

Mom washed the vegetables and said, “Vegetables help our bodies grow strong.”

Soon we had more vegetables than our family could eat.

“When we have extra food, it’s nice to share,” Mom said.

We filled a basket and shared vegetables with our neighbors.

A Note to Parents and Caregivers

Gardening helps children understand where food comes from and encourages curiosity about healthy foods. Sharing extra produce also helps children learn generosity and community connection.
